Together for safety

2025-06-18

On June 12, Vesuvius Poland celebrated Safety Day. An event that unites all our sites around the world with a common goal: building a work culture where safety is not only a priority, but a daily value.

We began the celebration with a meeting with the Plant Director, Piotr Sperka, who emphasized that one of the key safety topics for 2025 is hand protection. Participants experienced firsthand how challenging everyday tasks become when the function of one hand is limited. This simple exercise served not only as a practical lesson, but also as an important moment of reflection on the importance of following health and safety rules.

As part of Safety Day, we organized a series of activities combining theory and practice. One of the most popular attractions was the VR training, where participants took part in a virtual evacuation from a burning skyscraper. This allowed them to face a simulated crisis situation and learn how to make decisions under high stress, limited visibility, and spreading smoke. The fire drill and evacuation exercise were equally engaging, including hands-on experience with various types of fire extinguishers and testing readiness to act in case of a fire.

Training on working in confined spaces provided knowledge and skills necessary for safe operation in environments where limited ventilation and narrow escape routes pose real risks. The session on working at heights, delivered by specialists from ROCK MASTER, combined theoretical knowledge with practical demonstrations of safety equipment and a technical rescue operation.

The comprehensive Safety Day program also included activities to expand team knowledge and engagement. Participants took part in a first aid course, a health and safety knowledge quiz, and a forklift operators’ competition. Additionally, employees had the opportunity to attend individual dietary consultations, including body composition analysis and personalized advice on healthy eating and hydration.

A particularly interesting element was the presentation by Milwaukee and Prewenta, manufacturers of modern safety solutions, which featured “alco-goggles.” These allowed participants to personally experience how alcohol impairs perception and coordination.

The event concluded with a barbecue gathering, a chance to talk, share experiences, and enjoy time together in a relaxed atmosphere.

What does safety mean according to children?

A special highlight of the day was an art contest for the children of our employees, themed “Visible = Safe.” The colorful works, promoting the use of reflective elements and safe road behavior, were showcased in a special exhibition at the company’s headquarters. The young artists demonstrated great creativity. Thank you to all of them!

Safety Day at Vesuvius Skawina is not just an annual initiative, but a real investment in the knowledge, safety, and awareness of all employees. Practical exercises and open dialogue create an environment where safety becomes a daily value, not just a duty.

Thank you to all participants for your energy, involvement, and for building a culture of safety. Together, we create a safer tomorrow!
