At Vesuvius, safety is part of our culture

Workplace safety is more than just an obligation for us – it is a key part of the organizational culture we consistently build every day. With this mindset, the SIO & DO campaign was launched at our Skawina plant and ran throughout February 2026.

The initiative focused on dangerous occurrences and opportunities to improve workplace safety – SIO (safety improvement opportunity) & DO (dangerous occurrence). The campaign aimed to strengthen safety culture among employees, raise health and safety standards, and increase awareness of the roles and responsibilities related to safety within the organization.

A campaign for all employees

The initiative was addressed to the entire team, both production employees and management. To reach as many people as possible, the campaign used a variety of communication channels.

Information about the initiative appeared on internal screens, posters and leaflets, as well as educational materials placed, among others, on tables in the canteen. A positive and engaging element of the campaign were also small surprises placed in snack vending machines – thoughtful reminders highlighting the importance of safety in everyday work.

Learning through engagement

One of the key elements of the campaign was the Safety Training Series, a cycle of four training rounds attended by more than 200 employees. Participants had the opportunity to test their knowledge and their ability to identify risks through an interactive educational game called Spot the hazard. At the same time, a health and safety knowledge quiz was conducted, with more than 600 employees and team leaders taking part. Participants answered questions related to procedures, regulations, and safety rules applicable at the plant.

The campaign concluded with a summary of the results and recognition of those who demonstrated the highest level of knowledge about workplace safety. Winners were selected both in the general category and among managers. The prizes included electronic gadgets, but above all the satisfaction of actively contributing to an initiative that strengthens our safety culture.

Building a safe workplace together

The SIO & DO campaign was prepared by Dominika Haba-Posz, Alina Yeremenko and the HS Department and was one of the many initiatives through which we continue to build a workplace environment at Vesuvius based on responsibility and mutual care. The initiative showed that talking about safety can be engaging and inspiring, and that a true safety culture is built through everyday habits and shared responsibility for one another at work.
