'Lean Day’ in Skawina - Operational Excellence in our DNA2023-12-28
In November, the MONO department held a full-day workshop called ‘Lean Day’ with the theme ‘Together in Gemba.’
The event brought together colleagues from various production departments, support departments, and administrative staff who do not have daily contact with production areas. Colleagues from the Customer Service Center of Excellence and the Global Standard Business Process team in Krakow also participated in the event. The aim of the workshop was to improve collaboration and communication between departments and teams.
The primary objectives of organizing Lean Day in Skawina were to improve safety in the MONO department by standardizing and enhancing the visualization of the area. Another equally important objective was to promote teamwork among colleagues from areas that frequently collaborate but have not had the opportunity to become acquainted with one another.
Jacek Kukiz, EMEA Operations & Excellence Manager (Steel Division), highlighted the importance of the event, stating that “…it brought together production operators, administrative staff, colleagues from Krakow, and representatives of Vesuvius Skawina management…” He emphasized that such events break down barriers and facilitate collaboration, which is crucial for operational excellence.
During the event, participants engaged in three types of activities: Gemba Work, Lean Game and Workshops.
This was made possible through the meticulous preparation of logistics and materials by Mateusz Chromik from the MONO department, and the commitment and support of APU Manager Mariusz Szymanski. Participants appreciated the accessibility and responsiveness to their respective group’s needs.
The event ended with the presentation of diplomas, a group photo, and a feedback session from participants. The event received a rating of 8.1 out of 10.
