Birthday Barbecue to Celebrate the 110th Anniversary
2026-09-29Celebrating many decades of history and tradition is a special moment for any company. In the case of Vesuvius, with more than 110 years of history, celebrating together with the people behind the company’s successive stages of growth, transformation and achievements takes on particular significance.
That is why, on Wednesday, September 23, employees of Vesuvius Poland in Skawina were invited to a special birthday BBQ. The event was hosted jointly by Plant Director Rafał Czapla and Fabricio Salazar (RVP Steel EMEA). The BBQ was an opportunity to spend time together, talk outside the everyday work routine and meet colleagues from different teams.
This year’s 110th anniversary celebrations coincided with the official opening of a new facility at the Skawina plant – the Central Warehouse.

The History of the Vesuvius Brand
Vesuvius Crucible Company was founded in 1916 in Pittsburgh, USA. The company was established during the boom of the American steel industry, focusing on the development of innovative stopper heads for steelmaking – a process that went on to become an industry standard and continues to be developed to this day.
Today, Vesuvius is a global leader in molten metal flow engineering, listed on the London Stock Exchange. The company supplies ceramic and refractory materials to the steel, foundry, glass and solar energy industries, with more than 11,000 employees across six continents, 40 countries and 55 manufacturing sites.
It is worth noting that the Skawina plant has been operating since 1910. It began as the First Galician Factory of Stoneware and Fireclay Products and, after decades of transformation, became part of the global Vesuvius brand, adopting its current name in 2009. Not long afterwards, through consistent investment in technology, innovation and employee development, the plant gained strategic importance within Vesuvius – demonstrating that strong foundations and a shared vision are a source of our strength and a driving force for the challenges ahead.
