Safety Days – How We Build a Culture of Responsibility

2026-06-24

Safety Day is a unique event that brings together all Vesuvius sites around the world each year around a shared goal: building a workplace culture in which safety is a daily value and a responsibility shared by every employee.

Although the main focus of this year’s celebration was Wednesday, June 17, Safety Days activities at Vesuvius Poland’s Skawina plant extended over several days. The event provided an opportunity to gain practical knowledge and exchange experiences related to workplace safety, health, and responsible behavior in a variety of professional situations.

Workplace Safety – Knowledge and Practice

One of the key objectives of Safety Days was to raise awareness of safe working practices. Employees had the opportunity to participate in workshops, presentations, quizzes, and personal protective equipment (PPE) tests, allowing them to assess their knowledge and reinforce the importance of proper use of protective equipment and LTT safety principles.

The program also included an element of friendly competition. Knowledge contests, crosswords, and prize lotteries encouraged participants to expand their safety awareness in a more informal and engaging way.

A particularly popular activity was the VR-based training session. Using virtual reality technology, participants were able to experience realistic hazard scenarios and practice appropriate responses in a completely safe environment. Another practical highlight was the working-at-height demonstration delivered by Rock Master.

Excitement was also generated by the “Eagle Behind the Wheel” competition for certified forklift operators. On a specially designed course, participants tested their precision, maneuvering skills, and ability to operate equipment safely while competing for the title of best driver.

Road and vehicle safety were further emphasized through a rollover simulator and a reaction-time tester, giving employees the opportunity to experience firsthand the importance of concentration and responsible behavior when operating vehicles.

Health as a Component of Safety

As in previous years, Safety Days also addressed topics related to health and well-being. Alab conducted blood glucose testing, enabling employees to perform a basic health check and increase their awareness of preventive healthcare.

In addition, employees could assess their physical condition through ergometer exercises and participate in ergonomics workshops designed to highlight the importance of daily habits and proper workstation organization in maintaining long-term health and comfort at work.

A particularly important part of this year’s program was first aid training. Eighteen employees designated as workplace first responders took part in the course, gaining practical skills in assessing a casualty’s condition, securing the scene of an incident, contacting emergency services, checking consciousness and breathing, performing CPR on adults and children, and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

This year’s Safety Day celebrations in Skawina once again demonstrated that creating a safe working environment requires the commitment of the entire organization.

We would like to thank all participants for their active involvement and commitment to promoting safety!
