New Vesuvius Poland warehouse already in operation

2024-02-28

Almost 2,500 m2, 14 m in height and 3,000 places for palletised raw materials – this is how the recently completed Vesuvius warehouse in Skawina presents itself in figures. Inside, there are eight 50 m long and 12.5 m high racks. This is the first warehouse in the Vesuvius group where it is possible to store goods that require a suitable temperature of 18-22 ℃.

The idea for the new warehouse was already conceived in 2018, when the concept of a central warehouse was raised. At the time, the idea did not come to fruition, but still two neighbouring projects required more space for palletised raw materials. So the bulk raw materials warehouse, which had not been used for several years, was used.

In June 2022, we received planning permission, and four months later we started the project, which involved the partial demolition of the building, dismantling the roof and wall structure. The steel structure was also renovated and the floor replaced. We also took care of adequate social facilities, equipping the building with new offices and hygiene and sanitary facilities.

Construction was completed in October a year later according to the planned schedule – after 157 working days. In mid-November 2023, we obtained the occupancy permit and started the process of adapting the building for logistics purposes.

The investment was planned in such a way as to support sustainability projects at our site and contribute to reducing CO2 emissions. To this end, the heating installation of the warehouse was adapted to be supplied from the heat exchanger of the SBB flue gas afterburner at the VISO department, whose installation is planned for this year. In addition, electricity consumption in the department will be supported by the installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof of building M401.

The warehouse was built according to the latest standards for production and warehouse buildings and equipped with the latest tools to support logistics operations.
